Fraudulent Resume Stitches up Hospital
Fraudulent Resume Stitches up Hospital
A man landed a nursing role in a prominent and recognizable hospital after claiming he had previously worked at the hospital that featured in US drama ER.
The registered nurse reported that he had worked at the County General Hospital in Chicago as well as claiming he had worked as an operational medic in the Royal Marines seeing action in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the Gulf—none of which was true.
It was heard that he had embellished his resume to improve his overall job prospects. As a result of these claims and the drastic exaggeration of his resume he was able to not only improve his job prospects but also allowed him to qualify and accept a position as Emergency Nurse Practitioner within a respected Hospital.
His deceit only came to light a year after employment when he was treated by a consultant who became suspicious of his claims and decided to inform his employers. Once confronted the employee confessed his lies and subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud to which he was charged with 150 hours of community service.
This level of deceit is surprisingly common and highlights the importance of employers conducting adequate levels of due diligence. The potential ramifications of this particular hire could have been disastrous both to the reputation of the hospital and the lives put under the care of the Nurse.
